Token Street Blues Stock Market Simulation
(c) Copyright 1989-1992 By Glen R. Fredericks
Description And Command Summary
The Token Street Blues, so named because of the often depressing
results achieved by would be securities mavens, is a stock market
simulation game. Participants are given $10,000 (play money, of
course) to invest in securities on the Token Street Stock Exchange
(TSSE). The object of the game is to make as wise investments as
possible and achieve the highest rate of return on your original
$10,000.
[A]nalyse a stock issue - will give you the trading quotes for the
last 60 days for the selected issue. Often, as a stock price breaks
new ground into either higher or lower territory, there is resistance
and a careful study of the past performance of a certain issue may
give some clue as to near term performance potential.
[B]uy stocks - is the command used to buy into a company that you feel
will give you some type of return. After you select the issue, you
will be told how much cash and margin credit you have available and
how many shares you can afford. You must purchase shares in lots of
100, no odd lots are allowed. Your account will be updated according
to your purchase.
[C]urrent quotes - will list all the issues on the exchange along with
their most recent quote and their 60 day high and low.
[D]isplay general market statistics - will display the current market
value index along with the 60 day high and low, as well as the total
market capitalization.
[G]raphical display of price performance. This option will show in
graphic form the price performance for a particular issue over the
last 15 days.
[I]nformation about your account - will list your cash on hand, margin
debit, current net worth and annualized rate of return. Your current
holdings along with current price and purchase price will also be
listed.
[M]essages from your broker - will display any messages received from
your broker. These messages will include news about companies that you
own, margin calls and notification of sales of your holdings to cover
margin requirements.
[N]ews of financial interest - will display the Token Street Financial
News in reverse chronological order. The database will retain the most
recent 100 news items.
[O]ptions market - here you can trade in puts and calls on any stocks
selling over $20. Put and calls are offered in three denominations and
three expiration months. All options expire on the 15th of their
respective expiration month.
[P]ortfolio analysis - will list a summary of your portfolio and
include total number of shares held, purchase cost and value, days
owned and rate of return for each issue.
[Q]uit - will exit the program and return you to the BBS.
[R]ank players - will display the current rankings of all participants
according to annualized rate of return.
[S]ell stocks - will allow you to sell stocks that you own. If you
don't currently own the stock you will be asked if you want to sell
that issue short.
[X] - Stock exchange report on a selected issue.
[Z] - instructions - displays this file.
Margin Requirements - On long positions, you must maintain a 50%
margin ration, i.e. you margin debit cannot exceed your net worth. For
short positions, you must maintain a net worth equal to 1.5 times the
current value of the share shorted. Options may not be purchased on
margin. You may combine any or all of these investment methods. Your
broker will calculate your margin requirements for you and if
necessary, will send you a margin call.
